We're just going into the awards season when a wealth of top quality films that have only just been released will be online due to dvds being sent out to thousands of Oscar voters.

Yes you can download things and keep them, and most people probably do. Along with Netflix that is a decent resource. There's nothing odd about wanting to watch things while they're new though.
